Founders, Lou Dortch, Sr. and Lou Dortch, Jr., have worked in the restaurant business since 1987 and founded Great Lakes Taco in 2017. Great Lakes Taco started as a 21 store acquisition and has grown to 44 locations in southeast Michigan with plans to grow aggressively.

Our Story

1938

Introduced

Dortch is born

Troy Dortch opened his first dry cleaning plant and drop off store in downtown Flint, Michigan and named it Troy Cleaners.

1956

Team Added

Troy's son, Lou Dortch, Sr. joined the business.

1957-1979

Expanded

Lou Dortch, Sr. grows Troy Cleaners to numerous locations in and around Flint, Michigan.

1980

Change of Ownership

Lou Dortch, Sr. purchased the business from his father.

1985

Team Added

Lou Dortch, Jr. joins the business

Lou Dortch, Jr. joins the business. The father and son team grow Troy Cleaners to one of the largest dry cleaning operations in the state with 16 locations and hundreds of employees.

1987

Expansion

Lou Dortch, Sr. and Jr. enter the restaurant business

Lou Dortch, Sr. and Jr. enter the restaurant business, purchasing their first Subway franchise and open a location on Dort Highway in Flint, Michigan.

1988-2016

Expansion

The father and son team grow the Subway business to 70 locations

The father and son team grow the Subway business to 70 locations and become the largest franchisee in the state of Michigan. The company is now referred to as Dortch Enterprises.

2017

Expansion

Dortch Enterprises sells 33 Subway restaurants and enters the Taco Bell system

Dortch Enterprises sells 33 Subway restaurants and enters the Taco Bell system. Lou Dortch, Jr. purchases 21 locations from the Taco Bell Company.

2018-2020

Expansion

Dortch opens an additional four Taco Bell locations.

2020-2021

Expansion

Dortch opens an additional two Taco Bell locations

Dortch opens an additional two Taco Bell locations.

2021

Expansion

Dortch opens another Taco Bell location

Dortch built a Taco Bell in Vassar, Michigan.

Dortch acquires three Taco Bell locations

Dortch acquires three locations in 2021: Grand Blanc, Clarkston, and Lake Orion, Michigan.

2022

Dortch opens four more Taco Bell locations

Dortch builds four locations in 2022 – White Lake, Chesaning, Holly and Marlette, Michigan.

2023

Dortch opens four more Taco Bell locations

Dortch builds four locations in 2023 – Pontiac, Oxford, Otisville and a 3rd location in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

Dortch opens four more Taco Bell locations

Dortch builds six locations in 2024 – Metamora, Cass City, Sebewaing, Harrison, Hemlock and Sanford, Michigan.
